Brazilian DBS Starts National Production for the World’s Largest Sporting Goods Retailer

Contract with French multinational Decathlon includes Roller Skates, Kick Scooters, Skateboards and even Tents.

DBS debuted in the sporting goods market in 2003, producing skateboards. Twenty years later, the brand is now known for its pioneering role in electric mobility, but the sporting spirit remains in its DNA and the company is strongly resuming production of Skateboards, Roller Skates, Kick Scooters and even Tents.

The inauguration of the plant in the Manaus Industrial Hub in 2019 was planned for assembling electric vehicles of the own brands, DROP and BRMOBILITY, as well as OEM partnerships for producing items under the buyer’s brand.

In this context, the partnership with Decathlon begins — the world’s largest sporting goods retailer, currently with more than 40 stores in Brazil and 1,300 abroad — to produce products carrying its own brands, such as Oxelo (Roller Skates, Kick Scooters and Skateboards) and Quechua (Camping Tents).

After a long approval process that took 2 years, DBS produced the first batch of 10,000 units in October 2022, becoming the largest manufacturer of the Oxelo-Decathlon brand in Brazil. The partnership foresees expansion of locally produced items, reaching 150,000 units in 2024.

Since inaugurating the factory in Manaus, DBS has prioritized developing OEM partnerships as a strategy to occupy the industrial plant, gain scale and make the project economically viable.

“The operating cost of an industrial plant is high. We invested in production capacity and the challenge is keeping production busy. DBS is focused on offering assembly services, with tax exemption, to companies in Electric Mobility, Electromechanical and Mechanical Toys and Sporting Goods that seek greater competitiveness,” says Ricardo Ducco, managing partner of DBS. “This way, any importer, from small to large, can have immediate access to the tax benefits of the Manaus Free Trade Zone, avoiding the long and costly process of setting up and maintaining a factory.”
