Walk through any major shopping center and there is a good chance you will see a Segway electric dicycle patrolling the premises. Widely adopted by private and public security teams, these self-balancing personal transporters excel in high-traffic indoor environments where conventional vehicles simply cannot operate with the same efficiency or safety.
The Technology That Changed Personal Mobility
When American manufacturer Segway unveiled its Personal Transporter (PT) in 2001, the announcement captured global attention. At the heart of the product was a breakthrough self-balancing technology — a sophisticated electronic system that allows a rider to travel on two wheels, and even remain stationary, without tipping over. More than two decades later, the engineering behind it still draws curiosity and commands respect in the mobility industry.
From the United States to Brazil
Twenty years after Segway began production in the United States, DBS has inaugurated a dedicated assembly line for the electric dicycle at its plant in the Polo Industrial de Manaus — bringing domestic production of this vehicle to Brazil for the first time.
The first batch of 50 units was produced in March 2023 for BRMOBILITY, another company within the DBS Group.
Looking ahead, DBS projects production of 100 to 150 electric dicycles per year over the next three years, serving security operators, facility managers, and mobility solution providers across the Brazilian market.
