DBS entered the sporting goods market in 2003, producing skateboards. Twenty years later, the company is widely recognized as a pioneer in electric mobility — but its sporting roots never left. DBS is now scaling back up its production of skates, scooters, roller skates, and camping tents through a landmark partnership with one of the world's most recognized retail brands.

A Plant Built for Scale, and Strategic Partnerships

The inauguration of DBS's plant at the Polo Industrial de Manaus in 2019 was designed from the outset with two objectives in mind: assembling electric vehicles under its own brands — DROP and BRMOBILITY — and offering OEM manufacturing services to companies seeking to produce under their own labels within Brazil.

It was within this strategic framework that the partnership with Decathlon was established.

Decathlon is the world's largest sporting goods retailer, currently operating over 40 stores in Brazil and more than 1,300 locations globally. The agreement covers the production of items under Decathlon's proprietary brands: Oxelo (roller skates, scooters, and skateboards) and Quechua (camping tents).

From Homologation to Full-Scale Production

Following a rigorous two-year homologation process — covering quality audits, technical compliance, and production validation — DBS delivered its first batch of 10,000 units in October 2022, officially becoming the largest manufacturer of Oxelo-branded products in Brazil.

The partnership is structured for growth: the production roadmap projects an expansion to 150,000 units by 2024, with additional product categories to be incorporated progressively.

The OEM Model as a Growth Strategy

Since the Manaus plant opened, DBS has pursued OEM partnerships as a deliberate strategy to maximize plant utilization, achieve production scale, and ensure the long-term economic viability of its industrial operation.

"The operational cost of running an industrial plant is significant. We invest in productive capacity, and the challenge is keeping that capacity occupied. DBS is focused on offering assembly services — with tax exemptions — to companies in the Electric Mobility, Electromechanical and Mechanical Toys, and Sporting Goods sectors that are looking for greater competitiveness," said Ricardo Ducco, Managing Partner at DBS. "This way, any importer — from small to large — can immediately access the fiscal benefits of the Manaus Free Trade Zone, without going through the lengthy and costly process of setting up and maintaining their own factory."
