BRAZILIAN COMPANY DBS STARTS NATIONAL PRODUCTION FOR THE WORLD’S LARGEST RETAILER OF SPORTING GOODS

The contract with the French multinational Decathlon includes skates, scooters, skateboards, and even tents.

DBS started out in the sporting goods market in 2003 producing skateboards. 20 years later, the brand is now known for its pioneering spirit in electric mobility. but the sporting spirit remains in its DNA and the company is strongly resuming production of skateboards, skates, scooters, and even tents.

The inauguration of the plant in the Industrial Pole of Manaus, in 2019, was planned for the assembly of electric vehicles of its own brands, DROP and BRMOBILITY, in addition to OEM partnerships for the production of articles with the buyer’s brand.

In this context, they forged a partnership with Decathlon, the largest sporting goods retailer in the world, which currently has more than 40 stores in Brazil and 1,300 abroad, for the production of products carrying Decathlon’s brands, such as Oxelo (skates, scooters, and skateboards) and Quechua (camping tents).

After a long approval process that took two years, DBS produced the first batch of 10,000 units in October 2022, thus becoming the largest manufacturer of the Oxelo-Decathlon brand in Brazil. The partnership foresees expansion of locally produced items, reaching 150,000 units in 2024.

Since the inauguration of the factory in Manaus, DBS has prioritized the development of OEM partnerships as a strategy to occupy the industrial plant, increase scalability, and make the project economically viable.

“The operating cost of an industrial plant is high. We invested in production capacity and the challenge is to keep production busy. DBS is focused on offering assembly services, with tax exemption, to companies in the electric mobility, electromechanical and mechanical Toys, and Sporting Goods sectors that seek greater competitiveness”, comments Ricardo Ducco, managing partner of DBS. “Thus, any importer, from small to large, can have immediate access to the tax benefits of the Manaus Free Trade Zone, avoiding the long and costly process of implementing and maintaining a factory”.
